Rugby News - 1 RGBW Army Rugby Champions 2003

1 RGBW played 1 RWF in the Army Rugby Cup final on Wednesday 05 March 2003.  There was a fantastic turnout of old retired soldiers from RGBW, Glosters and Duke of Edinburgh's all turning out in support of the Rugby Squad on this glorious day.  Food was laid on for all attending plus a bar which was well used.  The Wiltshire weather we noticed had not changed as it rained from when we arrived at mid day until we left at 1630 hrs.  We were expecting a difficult came with 1RGBW leading then 1RWF leading and in the final 15 mins the Battalion were trailing by one point at 19 to 20, however the chance arrived to kick for goal and it was not wasted.  The score was then 22 - 20 the team then held the enemy at bay until the final whistle blew.  Followed by a triumphant cheer from all attending.  Traveling myself from Colchester the score made everything worth while.
