FIJIAN TRADITION CONTINUES
The six Fijians who joined the
Battalion in the late sixties certainly made their mark in the
sporting arena. It appears that the tradition is continuing. A number
of recruits from Fiji have joined the Battalion and one in particular
is making his presence felt in the Army Rugby field. Private Saula
ROKA is in the British Army Rugby Sevens Squad and was part of the
team that have just won the 2001 Safari Sevens in Nairobi…….He is
shown here in action in Nairobi
For those who are interested the Army
are taking on the Police at Aldershot on the 29th August in Rugby
League
Following on from the article above,
the Army Rugby Team that contains Pte Saula ROKO, 1 R.G.B.W. after
winning the Safari Sevens in Nairobi, went on to win the Welsh Cwmtawe
Saithiau in Swansea. They followed this up with a fixture at
Twickenham in the Middlesex Sevens. They there came up against the
likes of Wasps, Bath, Saracens and Newcastle. In the game, Army versus
the Wasps Pte ROKO ran in the winning try. The team went on to win the
tournament, the best performance for many years. All members of the
team have now been dispersed to there respective Regiments.

Army team for its success and Pte ROKO in particular, and hope his
skill and influence will bring the Battalion Rugby team success in the
future.
