FIJIAN TRADITION CONTINUES

The six Fijians who joined the Battalion in the late sixties certainly made their mark in the sporting arena. It appears that the tradition is continuing. A number of recruits from Fiji have joined the Battalion and one in particular is making his presence felt in the Army Rugby field. Private Saula ROKA is in the British Army Rugby Sevens Squad and was part of the team that have just won the 2001 Safari Sevens in Nairobi…….He is shown here in action in Nairobi

For those who are interested the Army are taking on the Police at Aldershot on the 29th August in Rugby League

Following on from the article above, the Army Rugby Team that contains Pte Saula ROKO, 1 R.G.B.W. after winning the Safari Sevens in Nairobi, went on to win the Welsh Cwmtawe Saithiau in Swansea. They followed this up with a fixture at Twickenham in the Middlesex Sevens. They there came up against the likes of Wasps, Bath, Saracens and Newcastle. In the game, Army versus the Wasps Pte ROKO ran in the winning try. The team went on to win the tournament, the best performance for many years. All members of the team have now been dispersed to there respective Regiments.

The Web site team congratulate the Army team for its success and Pte ROKO in particular, and hope his skill and influence will bring the Battalion Rugby team success in the future.
