Sergeant J J Le Roux
Jez
was born on the 23rd January 1964; he attended West Buckland
School, near Feilleigh in North Devon until the age of sixteen. He
was a keen sportsman with a particular flair for Rugby. He was a member
of the schools Combined Cadet Force and reached the rank of Corporal in
the R.A.F. section.
He
enlisted into the Duke of Edinburgh’s Royal Regiment on the 10th
June 1981. His training was carried out at the Depot Crickhowell and he
was a member of the last adult training platoon to pass out from there.
After
training he was posted to the 1st Battalion and 4 Platoon,
‘B’ Company. In late 1983 whilst at Canterbury he attended a JNCOs
Cadre, passed with flying colours and was promoted to L/Cpl soon after.
He continued with ‘B’ Company until 1985 when he joined the Reece
Platoon and later the Close Observation Platoon for the two year tour to
Aldergrove, Northern Ireland. He attended the Platoon Sgts Battle Course
and was promoted to Sgt in ‘A’ Company and went on Exercise to
Malaysia.
He
was known as ‘Jez’ to his friends or more commonly as ‘Danny
Leroux’. He was a man who always demanded the highest standards
from himself and all the members in his platoon.
He
served in Hong Kong where he got married and was later posted to the
Army Careers Information at Reading. It was whilst serving here
that he died.
